Scientist / Senior Scientist, Retinal Biology

Generation Bio is a biotechnology company creating a new pillar of medicine for a new generation. With our proprietary ceDNA technology, we are developing genetic medicine with drug-like properties: titrated to optimal levels, redosed throughout a lifetime, scaled to reach around the world. Our mission is to make the ravages of genetic disease feel as imaginary to the next generation as polio feels to children today.

We are a thriving, collaborative, creative community of diverse talents, beliefs, and experiences relentlessly dedicated to our mission. Founded and launched by Atlas Venture. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Committed to a future where more people can live full lives.

Research will focus on planning and executing endpoint assays for in vitro and in vivo studies of our ceDNA platform to advance both the platform and our growing pipeline of development candidates focused on application to retinal disease. The successful candidate will be involved in hands on bench work and will also assist in managing in vitro and in vivo studies performed by CRO(s).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design experiments, analyze data, and interpret results to support multiple projects
  • Conduct in vitro experiments including cell culture maintenance, transfection and downstream sample analysis
  • Interpret in vivo imaging data generated by CRO’s and perform assays on treated tissue to assess transgene delivery, expression, and biological effects

  • Familiarity with retinal biology/ophthalmic disease and associated imaging techniques (OCT, SLO, and IVIS) required
  • Experience with IHC of retinal tissue required
  • Excellent lab technique and the ability to work independently to design experiments and analyze, interpret, and present data
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to allow effective division of time between lab work, data analysis, and managing research by CRO(s)
  • Experience extracting DNA/RNA/protein from tissue and/or cells and subsequent evaluation of gene expression by PCR, ELISA, western blot, etc.
  • Experience with cell culture manipulation techniques (e.g., transfections, cell-based assays)
  • Experience with (or willingness to learn) dissection methods to isolate retinal tissue from rodent eyes
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment a must
